• 2 cups cornmeal
  • 1½ cups milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil, plus more for greasing the pan
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Grease baking pan with oil. Place it in the oven until sizzling hot. Combine all ingredients stirring just until moistened (batter will be lumpy). Pour batter into heated pan and bake for about 25 minutes. Best if cornbread is baked one day before making the dressing.
