Chocoholic's Chocolate Chess Pie

This glorious pie delivers the fabulous chocolate taste you love. To make it even better, I like serving this pie with ice cream, and you can certainly get creative. You don’t have to use vanilla; we added a scoop of Moose Tracks on the side- yum! I also like the idea of serving this pie with sweetened whipped cream, and I don’t see a problem with serving both ice cream and whipped cream. Yum, again!

  • 2 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • Dash salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • 1 9-inch pie shell, unbaked
  • Sweetened whipped cream or ice cream for serving

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a small saucepan, melt chocolate and butter over very low heat, stirring to blend; cool. In a bowl combine sugar, flour, and salt; add eggs and vanilla or almond extract, mixing well. Blend in chocolate mixture. Stir in nuts. Pour into pie shell. Bake for 35 minutes or until top cracks. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream. Serves 6-8.

NOTE: I like to serve this pie warm. If you’ve baked it ahead, which you can do, just place the pie in a 200 degree oven for 10-15 minutes before serving.
